Crown Prince Haakon turns 50: this is how the heir to the Norwegian throne celebrates
The heir to the Norwegian throne is celebrating a milestone birthday today. We asked ours how he is celebrating the big occasion and what his attitude towards his role in the royal family is as he begins the new phase of his life star-Nobility expert Catrin Bartenbach.
Dear Mrs. Bartenbach, Haakon of Norway will be 50 years old. In 2013, for his 40th birthday, he organized a small music festival in the garden of his residence in Skaugum near Oslo. Will he celebrate big again this time?
There will also be a big party on this occasion, but this time it will be much different than on his 40th birthday. The fiftieth is something very special, especially for a crown prince, a moment to pause and realize that the time is really approaching when the succession to the throne is getting serious, that the relatively carefree years could soon be over. In addition, his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is celebrating the same milestone birthday this summer, on August 19th. In addition, the couple also wants to celebrate their 22nd wedding anniversary in August. So there are plenty of reasons to celebrate. And that happens with several actions: once the crown prince couple has been traveling through the whole country since March to get in touch with as many Norwegians as possible. They have chosen five distinctive destinations, including the regions of Telemark, Finnmark and Setesdal, plus the small island of Træna in the Arctic Circle, and finally the capital Oslo. Finally, on August 25th, there will be a veritable folk festival to which Norwegians from all walks of life are invited. And that takes place at a really exclusive location, namely in the inner courtyard of the royal palace in Oslo, which they call the “backyard party” in a manner that is as charming as it is calm.
