WWK Volleys – Lousy starting position – Sport

Herrsching’s volleyball players suffered an extremely bitter defeat on Saturday. Coach Thomas Ranner’s team lost their home game against SVG Lüneburg in the Audi Dome in front of around 1,100 spectators 0:3 (23:25, 23:25, 16:25). With two games to go before the end of the second half of the season, as sixth in the table, she only has a theoretical chance of starting in the group of the best four teams in the following intermediate round.

The intermediate round mode preceding the playoff quarter-finals was introduced in order to give the teams in the thinned-out league more screen space, also with the broadcasting streaming station and the sponsors. Instead of playing against top clubs like Berlin or Friedrichshafen in the intermediate round, which would also attract more spectators, the WWK Volleys will probably fight for places five to eight – against far less attractive opponents. There it is about the best possible starting position for the quarter-finals, for which they are already qualified, since the VC Olympia Berlin in the nine-relay as a talent factory only contests the first and second half of the season.

The Herrschinger held up well against Lüneburg for two sets, but the North Germans were the much more hardened and clever team. Ranner’s team was particularly disappointing in attack, and their quota was significantly worse than that of Lüneburg, where Yann Böhme and Jordan Ewert were particularly convincing.
