Tth defender VfL Wolfsburg has made a confident start to the new season in the women's Bundesliga. Coach Tommy Stroot's soccer team defeated SGS Essen 4-0 (3-0) in front of 3,200 spectators at the AOK Stadium on Saturday. The Polish striker Ewa Pajor (14th/70th) and the German Vice European Champions Alexandra Popp (40th minute) and Tabea Waßmuth (44th) scored the goals. “The three points are the most important. But we still have to score a few more goals," said Pajor at MagentaSport.

The hosts had to do without the national players Marina Hegering (foot injury) and Svenja Huth (infection). The EM keeper and former Frankfurter Merle Frohms was in the Wolfsburg goal for the first time since her return in a league game. Jule Brand, who came from Hoffenheim, was substituted on after a good hour, but was unable to contribute a goal.
