Why people become murderers

Tony worked as a waiter, his colleagues thought he was a nice guy. He is inconspicuous – someone who simply does his job. What they didn’t know: after work, Tony roamed the houses, he took drugs, sometimes met guys and invited them over. One night Tony was in a taxi with a young man: “I have to have him,” he thought. A little later he killed him in his apartment.

Such acts of violence repel, but somehow they also fascinate. “Why?” – this question comes to mind. It is not easy to answer, only one thing is clear: not everyone is capable of such an act. This text is about criminals like Tony and the woman who examines them using psychological concepts. Gwen Adshead is a forensic psychiatrist who works with some of England’s worst violent criminals and uncovers why they violently killed.
