The security situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories is tense. Five men are shot dead during an Israeli operation in a refugee camp in Jericho. Hamas announces retaliation.
During a raid by the Israeli military in Jericho West Bank five members of the Islamist Hamas have been killed. The aim of the operation was to arrest two militant Palestinians who fled to the city a week ago after an attempted attack on Israeli civilians, the army said. The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the death toll.
The Israeli army said the soldiers were in the Akabat Jabr refugee camp during their deployment jericho been shot at. They returned fire and hit several attackers.
According to the ruling in the Gaza Strip Hamas the dead were fighters from their armed wing, the Kassam Brigades. Hamas chief Ismail Haniya announced retaliation: “If the enemy continues to kill in the West Bank, it will be a catastrophe for him.” The resistance will continue.
According to the military, two armed Hamas members came to the entrance of a restaurant in the Israeli settlement of Vered Jericho during the attempted attack about a week ago. However, jamming prevented victims. According to Israeli security circles, both suspects were arrested at the raid killed.
Police Minister: “A terrorist is dead”
Israel’s Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir praised the work of the forces and said on Twitter: “A terrorist is fatal and anyone who tries to harm the citizens of Israel should know that”.
