VAT for gastronomy remains reduced

Berlin Restaurateurs can continue to look forward to a low VAT on food. In view of the looming energy crisis in Germany, the Federal Council approved on Friday that the tax would remain reduced to 7 percent until the end of 2023. Beverages are still excluded from this.

The VAT on food in the catering trade was reduced from 19 to seven percent during the corona pandemic – originally limited to the end of 2022. At the suggestion of Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP), the cabinet had already approved an extension for 2023.
