Former US President and recent candidate for office donald trump spoke after US Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to the ongoing investigation into Trump.
At his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the soft-spoken but clearly touched Trump said he saw the appointment of the special counsel as “outrageous” and an “appalling abuse of power.” He also sees it as an example of perversion of the law. In the speech, he described himself as “one of the most honest and innocent people that has ever existed in our country.”
“For six years my innocence has been proven on everything from fabricated impeachment proceedings to Mueller finding no collusion and now doing it again?” Trump asked. “It’s unacceptable, it’s so unfair, the worst form of politicization of the judiciary,” he said, calling for support: “The Republican Party needs to stand up and fight.”
