Washington The United States is deeply concerned about the treatment of the in Russia imprisoned opposition leader Alexei Navalny. This was announced by US State Department spokesman Ned Price on Friday (local time).
the Russian Prison authorities hindered Navalny from preparing his defense and from communicating with his lawyer, Price said in his statement. In addition, Navalny is repeatedly taken to solitary confinement for minor alleged violations.
Navalny had his lawyers announce on Thursday that the prison authorities had revoked his privilege to practice law without giving any reason. All correspondence with his legal team would now be subject to three-day reviews by prison staff.

Navalny is reportedly serving a sentence on probation violations, fraud and contempt of court. Authorities in Russia describe Navalny and his comrades-in-arms as enemies of the state who wanted to destabilize Russia with the support of the West.
