US sues Google for online ad dominance

USA According to a media report, the US Department of Justice wants the market power of Google limit online advertising. The authority could file a lawsuit against the search engine operator on Tuesday, the Bloomberg news agency wrote, citing insiders. The Justice Department could not immediately be reached for comment. Google declined to comment on the matter.

The company makes about 80 percent of its revenue from online advertising. This includes not only ads in the context of Internet searches, but also the technology for inserting advertising on the websites of other companies. Advertisers and website operators criticize, among other things, that it is unclear how much of the advertising money gets stuck with Google. The search engine operator always argues that there is tough competition with other providers like the Facebook mom Meta, the mobile operator AT&T or the cable company Comcast are.

The anticipated lawsuit would be the second antitrust lawsuit brought against Google by a US federal agency. In 2020, the Justice Department had targeted the group’s dominant position in Internet searches. This process is scheduled to open in September.
