Berlin The gas importer Uniper is on the verge of complete nationalization. Uniper announced on Tuesday afternoon that they were “in final talks” with the federal government and the Finnish Uniper majority shareholder fort via a “significant majority stake” by the federal government.

The stabilization package decided in July should be changed. A capital increase of eight billion euros is planned. In addition, the federal government should acquire the Uniper shares currently held by Fortum. Fortum holds 56 percent of the shares in Uniper, the federal government 30 percent.

In negotiating circles it was said that the federal government will probably make the corresponding decision at the next cabinet meeting.

Gas traders like Uniper got into trouble because Russia practically no more gas Germany pumps, but Uniper has to fulfill its own long-term contracts and has to buy the missing gas expensively on the market.
