Trump wants to go back to Facebook and Instagram – economy
Former US President donald trump wants to go back to Facebook and Instagram. He is currently banned on the two platforms. On Fox News Digital, the 76-year-old said his campaign organization was negotiating with parent company Meta about a possible return. “We’ll see how it all turns out,” Trump said. “If they take us back it would help them a lot and I’m fine with that,” he said. “But they need us more than we need them.”
Meta had previously announced that it would decide “quickly” on lifting the ban. Apparently, the Republican politician should be reinstated. This was indicated by the Vice President of the Facebook parent company Meta, Nick Clegg, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The decision will be announced soon. The former Liberal Democrat Deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain is Meta’s chief lobbyist and is officially responsible in this case.
Clegg pointed out that the lock for Trump was only pronounced for two years. This comes after his comments on the January 6, 2021 storming of the US Capitol and the subsequent debate about the role of the president-elect in the riot. A supervisory body of the group had insisted in 2021 on limiting the lock. Representatives of the US Democrats had specifically asked Meta in January to extend Trump’s ban. This continues to spread anti-democratic positions.
At Davos, Clegg argued that Meta have the obligation to also allow controversial discussions on its platforms. Originally, the Silicon Valley group had already announced the decision for January 7th.
Twitter allowed Trump back in Novemberafter US billionaire Elon Musk took over the social network. However, Trump remained loyal to the Truth Social platform he founded himself. There he has about 4.6 million followers.
