Trump fears arrest and calls for protests
Dhe former American President donald trump expects to be arrested next Tuesday. That’s why he called on his supporters to protest. “The overwhelmingly leading Republican candidate and former President of the United States of America will be arrested on Tuesday next week. Protest, take back our nation!” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday.
Trump did not provide any evidence for his claim. In the past, Trump had called on his supporters to protest if he was charged. The New York prosecutor is investigating Trump for paying hush money to a porn actress. In the United States, the jury decides whether to indict a case after the prosecutor has presented evidence. American media assume that this will happen to Trump in the coming days, but it is completely unclear whether this will actually happen. He would be the first former American president to be indicted for an alleged crime.
There are other proceedings against Trump, mainly related to his attempts to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election. Both federal government authorities and law enforcement officers in Georgia are investigating the former president. In Georgia, the focus is on a call Trump made to then-Secretary of the Interior Brad Raffensperger. In it, Trump asked Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes” that would have made up the 11,779 votes he lost in Georgia to his challenger, the Democrat Joe Bidenlay.
So far, requests from Trump have had no lasting consequences. It was different after the presidential election, when he called his supporters to a rally in Washington. “It’s going to be wild,” he predicted at the time. In his speech he then called on the audience to fight if they wanted to keep their country.
