The most beautiful outfits of the Oscars 2023

CChampagne is the new red: For the first time in 62 years, the stars didn’t walk over a red, but a champagne-colored carpet. The Academy was advised on the decision by Vogue editor Lisa Love and Met Gala creative director Raúl Àvila.
You could also just call it sand colors, say the two. But it’s now the Academy Awards, so: champagne. This doesn’t take away from the prestige of the usual scarlet (the color of the rich and powerful) – after all, the carpet was covered with a red tent.
The model Winnie Harlow was immediately happy about the decision: “The colors of the outfits look much better on a neutral carpet!” Her robe certainly: She wore a tea-green, narrow dress with playful details.
Little extraordinary
As every year, certain actresses and filmmakers were represented by certain brands: Michelle Yeoh by Armani Privé, Ana de Armas by Louis VuittonFlorence Pugh by Valentino.
Almost no one wore fancy dresses – only Nigerian singer Tems, nominated for “Best Original Song” for the film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, who appeared in a cloud of a dress by Lever Couture. “Wakanda” actress Danai Gurira, who presented an award that night, appeared in a black dress with a wide train, but her actual tower hairdo was the main attraction.
It was one of the trends of the evening: sweeping dresses with a wide skirt or puffy trains. The model Cara Delevingne dominated in a sweeping cherry red dress by Elie Saab; actress Florence Pugh in a black and sand (or champagne?) puff sleeve dress by Valentino Couture and Tiffany necklace; and her colleague Monica Barbaro, also in a bichrome turquoise dress with a burgundy train.
Monochrome and minimalist looks
The actress Hong Chau, who was nominated for best supporting actress for “The Whale”, showed that this train doesn’t have to be so romantic. She wore a slim, soft pink Prada dress, which she had adjusted around a traditional mandarin collar – and surprised with a deep black sequined train. Undoubtedly one of the best looks of the evening.
Monochrome and minimal looks were a staple this year: filmmaker Mindy Kaling wore a constructed white long-sleeved dress by Vera Wang, actress Jennifer Connelly wore a sequined black off-the-shoulder dress by Louis Vuitton, and Emily Blunt was also present in white, with bare shoulders and separate sleeves resembling opera gloves.
Away from flamboyance
How creative men’s outfits can be away from the classic black tuxedo without having to serve a flamboyant or feminine aesthetic was shown most impressively by the actor Harry Shum Jr. He wore a white, midnight blue trimmed suit by Warren Alfie Baker and a also midnight blue obi belt.
Paul Mescal, nominated for best actor, showed himself in a seventies look, with Marlene trousers, an open double-breasted suit in white and a rose on the lapel. And, as is so often the case, musicians could be relied on to wear flashy looks: Talking Heads frontman David Byrne wore a white jodhpuri suit, while rock singer Lenny Kravitz wore a Saint Laurent silk wrap shirt.
