Tennis world number one Carlos Alcaraz was surprisingly eliminated in the semifinals of the Masters tournament in Miami.

The tennis world number one Carlos Alcaráz was surprisingly eliminated in the semi-finals of the Masters tournament in Miami.

After 3:01 hours, the defending champion had to admit defeat to the Italian Jannik Sinner 7: 6 (7: 4), 4: 6, 2: 6. Since Alcaraz won his title in Miami cannot defend now, the Spaniard loses the lead in the world rankings again to the Serb Novak Djokovic after the tournament.

For Alcaraz it was only the second defeat in his 20th match this year, he hadn’t lost a set since February. That succeeded sense in the second half, when he twice held service from Alcaraz and took a 5-4 lead the second time. After equalizing the set, the Italian had no trouble in the last round.

The world ranking eleventh Sinner meets Daniil Medvedev in the final. The Russian had previously defeated his compatriot Karen Khachanov 7: 6 (7: 5), 3: 6, 6: 3. The 27-year-old Russian has won all five previous duels between Sinner and Medvedev.
