Strong growth in France and USA

Die sales of electric heat pumps as a climate-friendly alternative to oil and gas heating is not only increasing in Germany but worldwide. This is shown by a new analysis by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris.
Globally, heat pump sales increased by 11 percent last year. According to the company, this is the second year in a row with double-digit growth figures IEA. The energy experts see the increasing spread of heat pumps as an important contribution to climate protection.
In the United States more heat pumps were sold in 2022 than heaters powered by fossil fuels. In France, too, sales exceeded the sales figures for conventional heating systems for the first time, according to the IEA. A new ban on the installation of fossil heating systems in new buildings had an effect here.
In Europe, like Germany, a total of 17 countries have either announced or already implemented a ban on purely fossil-fuel heating. In most EU countries there is financial support from governments for the purchase of heat pumps.
Overall, the European heat pump market grew by almost 40 percent in 2022. France and Germany accounted for around half of European sales. However, China remained the world’s largest market for electrically operated heaters. World market leaders with a share of almost 40 percent are manufacturers from Japan, followed by Chinese suppliers.
The market for heat pumps is also booming in Germany. The Association of Heating Manufacturers BDH reported an increase in sales figures by more than half to 236,000 devices for the past year. However, sales of gas heaters in Germany continued to be twice as high. Heat pumps are significantly more expensive than gas and oil heating.
