Sport and politics meet on December 13th

fThe traffic light coalition has chosen an original form to confirm that the federal government's movement summit will take place on December 13th. In the debate in the Bundestag on the motion of the parliamentary groups from CDU and CSU with the demand "movement summit now" announced the SPD deputy Herbert Wollmann on Friday.

The plenum then rejected the motion with the votes of the coalition SPD, Greens and FDP. The government will develop an overall sports policy strategy at the summit, announced Philip Krämer from the Greens. It will be about the future of sport and the expansion of structures for mass sport; a special focus will be on the needs of children and young people.

In addition to Home Secretary Nancy Faeser, the Minister for Family Affairs is to take part Lisa Paus, Environment Minister Steffi Lemke and Health Minister Karl Lauterbach. The German Olympic Sports Confederation, which has been calling for this summit since March, had requested the participation of the houses for education, for social affairs, for construction and for transport in addition to the four ministries that have now been announced.

For the CDU, cycling Olympic champion Jens Lehmann, member of parliament from Leipzig, stated with a view to the consequences of the pandemic and the energy crisis: “The summit will come too late in December. We need him now.” For the left, MP André Hahn called for one billion euros each for the next ten years for the energy-efficient refurbishment of sports facilities.
