Scholz is apparently thinking of expanding the Western Balkans regulation

Berlin Chancellor Olaf Scholz According to information from government circles, is considering extending the so-called Western Balkans regulation for unbureaucratic immigration of workers and extending it to other countries. The instrument has met with great interest from both companies and workers from the countries of the Western Balkans, it said on Tuesday.

The Western Balkans scheme provides nationals of AlbaniaBosnia and Herzegovina, KosovoRepublic of North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia access to every job labour market in Germany. The regulation came into force in 2016 and was extended until December 31, 2023 due to high demand from companies.

Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) announced last week that he wants to solve the shortage of skilled workers with more immigration.
