Dthree hours before the official opening of the Munich Oktoberfest thousands of Wiesn visitors have already flocked to the festival grounds.
Shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday, the premises on the Theresienwiese opened. As a result, many who had waited in long queues since dawn rushed off to get a good seat in a beer tent.
In the tents, however, the guests still have to be patient for a while before they can quench their thirst for beer: Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Rider (SPD) will tap the first keg at 12 p.m. – only then will there be beer.
Many had been drinking since the early hours of the morning and some had been waiting in dirndls and lederhosen in front of the festival grounds since 5:00 a.m. Hours before the tapping, some of those waiting were visibly drunk. Only a few of the predominantly young visitors wore protective masks.
In 2020 and 2021 the mass event was canceled due to the pandemic. There are no corona requirements this year.
At not even ten degrees, it drizzled down on the waiting beer friends here and there. But the sun came out just in time for the opening of the site.
