Record: New “Avatar” best-selling film in Germany
New “Avatar” highest-grossing film in Germany
“Avatar: The Way of Water” has been nominated for four Oscars. The film by James Cameron is not only popular in the industry, but above all with the public.
The film “Avatar: The Way of Water” by director James Cameron has Germany brought in more sales than any film before it. This was announced by the Walt Disney Company. After 68 days in cinemas, the film brought in more than 129 million euros in sales. “It breaks the 25-year-old record as the most successful film of all time by sales in Germany, which was set by Titanic in 1998,” said Roger Crotti, manager of the Walt Disney Company for Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
However, the result is not adjusted for inflation. It must also be taken into account that cinema tickets have become more expensive over the years and 3D often costs a surcharge. The most visited movie in Germany is still “Titanic”, also a film by JamesCameronwhich was released in cinemas 25 years ago and is currently running again in view of this anniversary.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” is for four oscars nominated for, among other things, Best Film. Cameron himself recently commented on the success of “Titanic” and the “Avatar” films in a dpa interview: “It’s the combination of an emotional journey and a spectacular, visual experience in a cinema. All three films are made for the cinema and don’t look nearly as good at home.”
In 2009, “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora” was the first film in the series to be released in cinemas, the second was released last December. Cameron has more parts planned. The two films tell of the inhabitants of the planet Pandora, who have to defend their living space against the greed and striving for power of the earthlings.
