She’s standing in a sea of whistles and she’s angry. “We are always there when there is a fire,” she says. “We help the poor, the families, we ensure social peace.” But that, according to Grit Richling, is not recognized. “We are so underpaid that our job is totally unattractive.” That’s why Richling, 34, is standing on Munich’s Marienplatz on a sunny day in March; she wears a yellow vest, she sings, dances and starts battle cries. Grit Richling is a social worker but she is now on strike, as are so many people these months.
