After the violent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, several German broadcasters are changing their programs on Monday evening.

As early as 7:20 p.m., ZDF is showing a “ZDF special” entitled “Earthquake in Turkey and Syria – Many dead and injured”. The broadcaster and presenter Antje Pieper (54) looks at the current situation in around 20 minutes and would like to shed light on the work of the aid organizations on site. Also in the “heute journal” (from 9:45 p.m.) with Marietta Slomka (53) and in the “heute journal update” (from 11:50 p.m.) with Nazan Gökdemir (42) it will be about the earthquakes, among other things. In between, the crime thriller “Die Toten vom Lake Constance – Nemesis”.
New theme for “hard but fair”
The first changes the program significantly. From 8:15 p.m., the station will first show a “focus: earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria”, with Christian Nitsche (51) leading as moderator. Discussions and reports should deal, among other things, with difficult conditions when rescuing victims in Syria. And the question should be answered: “How effective can the help be , what is needed?”
In addition, “hard but fair” is brought forward to 8:35 p.m. Moderator Louis Klamroth (33) welcomes the topic “The earthquake in Syria and Turkey: How can we help?” including science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar (63) and Gerd Friedsam, head of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW). In addition, Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (57) should also be connected. The focus is on the questions: “How quickly will the help get there, what can we do for the victims on the ground? And how do we help the many people here who have relatives and friends in the earthquake area?”
At 9:35 p.m. Caren Miosga (53) will lead through the daily topics. “Against the seriousness of animals 2023”, the festival meeting of the Aachen Carnival Association, will therefore not be shown at 8:15 p.m. as previously planned, but from 10:10 p.m.
RTL is also planning a special broadcast at short notice. From 8:15 p.m., the station will show a fifteen-minute “RTL Aktuell Spezial: Earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria”. Moderator Maik Meuser (46) will talk to experts, reporters and aid organizations about the current situation. “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” with Günther Jauch (66) can then be seen from 8:30 p.m.
