Berlin In several states the digital radio of the police failed for several minutes. The disruption occurred on Wednesday night, confirmed by the afternoon of the interior ministries and police in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Brandenburg, HamburgMecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein.
The outage lasted between 15 and 17 minutes. The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported on a nationwide disruption. Several countries checked on Wednesday whether they also had failures. According to information from the federal states, the failure had no major impact on the work of the police.
The breakdown occurred during announced maintenance work for which an external company was responsible, said a police spokeswoman in Hamburg. Something must have happened during this work. "What exactly is still being determined."
The communication with the emergency vehicles on the streets of Berlin was done by telephone, said a spokesman in the capital. The emergency calls and the operation control system were not disturbed. The Hamburg fire brigade also had to struggle with problems with digital radio.

According to the police union (GdP) in Hamburg, the failure of the digital radio could have had fatal effects on the security of the Hanseatic city. "The warning signal must be heard," demanded state chairman Horst Niens.
It must also be tested how a failure of the power supply would affect digital radio. "If the boss of the Federal Network Agency and the Association of Towns and Municipalities warn of longer-lasting power outages, then the nocturnal outage of digital radio must finally make all the warning sirens in Hamburg's Senate go off," said Niens.
