After 12 years of relationship, Shakira and Piqué split in June 2022. The Colombian’s new music could be understood as a dig at her ex.
A new song by pop star Shakira (45) has caused a stir in the Spanish-language media and social networks.
Many interpreted the song “Music Sessions #53”, which the Colombian recorded together with the Argentine music producer Bizarrap, as a settlement with her ex-partner Gerard Pique and his presumed new girlfriend.
“I was too big for you, so now you’re with someone who’s your equal,” Shakira sings on the song. “You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo, a Rolex for a Casio.”
Separation in June 2022
After twelve years relationship Shakira and Piqué split in June last year. The pop superstar and the soccer world champion have two children together. After the breakup, Piqué was spotted on and off with a younger woman. “As much as you try to be a champion, when I needed you, you showed the worst version of yourself,” the song reads. “A wolf like me is not for guys like you.”
While Shakira doesn’t clearly mention her ex and his alleged newcomer in the song, she doesn’t give many subtle clues as to who it’s about. “Yo sólo hago música perdón que te sal-PIQUE” (I only do musicsorry if I soil you).
Musically, the return carriage should be a success. On the Bizarrap YouTube channel, the video was viewed almost 30 million times and commented on almost 250,000 times just a few hours after it was published.
