Survey: Majority for accelerated expansion of renewable energies

According to a survey, a large majority of people in Germany (92 percent) are in favor of accelerating the expansion of renewable energies. There were approval values of around 90 percent regardless of age, income and living situation, as the state development bank KfW announced on Wednesday. For systems that are to be set up in one’s own neighborhood, however, the approval is lower: 63 percent of the 1,000 respondents last November find regenerative power generation in their own neighborhood good or very good.

“The sluggish expansion of renewable energies must finally get going – because in the next eight years about four times as much capacity will have to be installed as in the last eight years in order to achieve the expansion targets,” warned KfW Chief Economist Fritzi Köhler-Geib. The legally stipulated priority for renewables and the intended simplification of planning and approval procedures must now be implemented with courage.

In principle, surveys only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey. The pollsters point out that the surveys have an error rate – for example plus/minus three percent.
