“No market without democracy” – Tech scene criticizes Israel’s judicial reform

Tel Aviv Protests, fire letters appeals: The Resistance to reform of the legal system grows. After the chair of the Supreme Court, Esther Hajut, opposed the conversion on Thursday, tens of thousands of people took part in rallies in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa on Saturday evening against the ultra-right and strictly religious coalition gathered under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The focus of the criticism is the judicial reform the new right-wing religious government. The accusation is that the coalition wants to weaken the Supreme Court and politicize the judiciary.
But also resistance is forming on the part of the economy. 400 high-tech entrepreneurs warn of “devastating consequences” if the government implements its goals. The business newspaper “Kalkalist” has now given the headline “Without democracy there is no market” on several pages investors, managers and entrepreneurs who categorically reject the reform plans have their say.
