Mix agrees ahead of Champions League in Lisbon

Dhis defeat is not a setback. Certainly: The anger was great that Eintracht the championship contender Borussia Dortmund had to admit defeat 1:2. But there was also a good deal of bad luck involved. What’s more, if the video assistants in the Cologne basement had done their homework conscientiously and looked closely, the neighborly duel between two ambitious Bundesliga clubs might have turned out very differently. Eintracht can take penalties.
If there is anything to criticize about the current condition of Frankfurt’s football professionals, then it’s the poor exploitation of chances. There were plenty of best opportunities against BVB. But apart from Daichi Kamada nobody was able to overcome the famous Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.
It’s no big deal that Eintracht missed out on climbing up the table with a possible and ultimately deserved win in their core business, the Bundesliga. Trainer Oliver Glasner continues to have a team that is in good shape and that, despite the supposed setback against Dortmund, who are happier in terms of the referees, can still do a lot.
A man with potential
The mix between the different parts of the team has been right for a few weeks now. Glasner and his helpers balanced the team well and found suitable solutions even in times of staff shortages. Hardly anyone would have seriously expected at the beginning of the season that Kristian Jakic plays a solid role as head of the three-man defense chain. The Croatian does it – and you can also rely on other players. Hvroje Smolcic, for example, who stayed on the bench against BVB, has previously shown that he can be relied on when the need arises.
One of the particularly refreshing discoveries of the past few weeks is Junior Dina Ebimbe. The young Frenchman trumps almost in the style of a veteran Bundesliga professional. A man with potential – just like Eintracht has the potential to arouse great emotions again in the upcoming game.
This requires a win on Tuesday (9:00 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Champions League and at DAZN) in Lisbon. A success at Sporting guaranteed the entry of the Champions League newcomer into the round of 16. The way Eintracht is currently performing, the next big leap is imminent.
