Jimmy Carter celebrated his 98th birthday on October 1st. He is the longest living President of the United States. Carter ruled in the White House from 1977 to 1981. He then used his fame, among other things, for the fight for human rights. The Carter Center, founded in 1982 by Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter (95), has been involved for 40 years. In 2002, Jimmy Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Celebration on parade
The former US President celebrated his 98th birthday according to the Washington Post, while seeing family members, taking calls and greeting well-wishers who came to a parade in his native town of Plains, Georgia. “Friends are calling and family is close by,” Jill Stuckey, a family friend, told the newspaper after visiting Carter Saturday morning. “He’s remarkable.” In a tweet from the Carter Center The former politician can be seen watching the parade from a wheelchair. Carter is also said to have taken a ride in the back seat of a convertible.
