Algiers Italy has made further gas deliveries Algeria secured. “In these months, Algeria has become the main gas supplier for our country,” said Prime Minister Mario Draghi on Monday in Algiers after a meeting of ministers from both governments. It was also an opportunity for countries to reaffirm their commitment to stabilization in the Mediterranean.
Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was satisfied with the 15 agreements in areas such as renewable energies, construction and the fight against corruption.
Algeria is Italy’s most important gas supplier. Draghi’s government decided after the Russian attack against the Ukraine, wanting to become independent of gas supplies from Moscow. the Russia previously pumped 29 billion cubic meters of gas to Italy annually.
Algeria has now pledged an additional four billion cubic meters of gas to the already agreed 21 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition spoke of an important step.
