Is the classic museum a case for the museum? – Culture

Peter Richter

What is a museum today? The ICOM, the International Council of Museums, passed a new definition a few weeks ago, the official German translation of which is still pending. At least analogously and while retaining the stiff-legged style of the original, a museum is now this: “a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society that researches, collects, conserves and interprets the tangible and intangible heritage. Open to the public , accessible and inclusive Museums diversity and sustainability. They work and communicate ethically, professionally and with community participation, offering diverse experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing.”
