as Hansi Flick took over the post of national coach from Jogi Löw in August 2021, he appointed an assistant with a completely new profile to his staff: Mads Buttgereit, half Danish, half German, has been taking care of the standard situations of the DFB team ever since. The 37-year-old was standard coach at the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland before he was appointed to the coaching staff of the Danish A-Elf by national coach Kasper Hjulmand. Flick, a self-confessed supporter of corners and free-kicks, had wanted to bring Buttgereit to Bayern Munich, which he was not able to do at the time. A technical discussion.
