Berlin Many citizens not only have to pay significantly more for their energy bills – statutory health insurance will also become more expensive in the coming year. Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) plans to raise the contributions to a record level.
The average additional contribution is to increase by 0.3 percentage points – and thus to a total of 16.2 percent of gross wages. The reason is the disastrous financial situation of the cash registers, which Lauterbach wants to stabilize, among other things, with the higher contributions. Employees and employers share the burden.
The Mannheim Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) has calculated the burden on each individual insured person. The figures are exclusively available to the Handelsblatt.
According to the ZEW calculations, health insurance contributions will increase by an average of 57 euros per household and year. However, the higher contributions do not have a one-to-one impact on disposable household income. In net terms, these are reduced by an average of 42 euros.
