Immigration – 84 million inhabitants – politics


For the first time, more than 84 million people live in Germany. Mainly as a result of Ukrainians fleeing the war in their home country, the number of inhabitants in this country grew by around 843,000 in the first half of 2022 compared to the end of 2021, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Wiesbaden. That is an increase of 1.0 percent. According to preliminary results, net immigration in the first six months of this year was around 750,000 Ukrainians and a total of 1 million people, around seven times as much as in the first half of 2021.
