Berlin IG Metall is against moving away from retirement at the age of 63. It is “a question of justice that after 45 years of insurance there is no reduction in pensions,” said union boss Jörg Hofmann to the newspapers of the Funke media group. He warned of a “social imbalance” and rejected an increase in the statutory retirement age.

In view of the shortage of skilled workers, employers have repeatedly called for a move away from retirement at 63 years and more employment of older people. The then coalition of Union and SPD introduced the early retirement pension without deductions from 45 years of insurance in 2014.
