Ice hockey – 3:2 for Munich in Cologne – Sport

The EHC Red Bull Munich is the leader of the German table ice Hockey Liga (DEL) into the international break. The team coached by Don Jackson won its away game against the Kölner Haie 3-2 on Tuesday after a long and confident performance and thus kept the pursuers from Ingolstadt, Mannheim and Bremerhaven at a distance before the break for the Deutschland Cup. “It doesn’t make a difference whether it’s 3-0 or 3-2,” said national player Andreas Eder after Bayern had led 3-0 until the final stages. For the EHC it was the fourth win in the last five games.

Filip Varejcka gave the guests a perfect start when he beat Haie goalkeeper Mirko Pantkowski after just 107 seconds. At Munich, the personnel situation had eased compared to their game against Straubing, which they had to end without nine regular players due to illness and injury. The sick Eder, Jonathon Blum, Daryl Boyle and Danny from the Birches returned, but this time Jackson had to do without attackers Trevor Parkes and Ben Smith.

You didn’t notice that in the Munich game. Offensively they acted powerfully, defensively attentive. Austin Ortega with a deflected outnumbered shot and Eder with a successful solo effort gave the guests a 3-0 lead in the middle third. “We play very consistently,” stated EHC attacker Justin Schütz at Magentasport. In the final third, Bayern survived a three-a-side situation before things got exciting again in the closing stages after goals from Cologne by David McIntyre (52′) and Maximilian Kammerer (56′).
