Hockey – Serge Aubin remains Polar Bears coach – Sport
Champion Eisbären Berlin puts in the German ice Hockey Liga (DEL) still on coach Serge Aubin despite the disappointing season with missed playoff qualification. As the club announced on Tuesday, the expiring contract with the 48-year-old Canadian was extended. “We are absolutely convinced of his qualities and have never doubted him. He has led us to two championships,” said sports director Stéphane Richer: “Even if the season ended too early for us, we want to build on the successful time together again .” Berlin was the third defending champion after the Düsseldorfer EG in 1997 and the Krefeld Penguins in 2004 and missed out on the championship round. For the first time in 22 years, the polar bears are missing from the playoffs. The former NHL professional had led Berlin to the championship title in 2021 and 2022.
