Hardly any other country is even worse than Germany

Germany needs more investments in international location competition.

Berlin During his visit to the BASF site in Schwarzheide a few weeks ago, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) was confident: “We want to continue to be one of the really big, successful industrial countries in the world in 2045,” he said. A factory for cathode material, an important component for e-car production, is being built at the site. The local investment is a good sign that Germany’s major industrial modernization will succeed, said Scholz.

But according to economists, it is about the location Germany badly ordered. It can hardly keep up with the top locations in North America, Western Europe and Scandinavia. At least that is the result of a new location ranking for the year 2022 by the Leibniz Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) on behalf of the Foundation for Family Businesses.

In this respect, the Federal Republic is in the worst position it has ever been since the ranking was first collected in 2006 – and other studies also give little hope.
