Handball World Cup: Germany scores 39 goals against Argentina
Germany’s handball players have made an impressive start to the main round of the World Cup. The team of national coach Alfred Gislason beat Argentina 39:19 (24:11) on Thursday and with the fourth win in the fourth game aimed at the quarterfinals.
Captain Johannes Golla (5 goals), left winger Lukas Mertens (5) and right winger Patrick Groetzki (5) were the best throwers for the selection of the German Handball Federation (DHB) in front of around 2500 spectators in the Spodek Arena in Katowice. The German team is in the main round group 3 now with 6:0 points.
Another win could be enough to get into the targeted knockout stages. Other opponents in the second phase of the tournament are the Netherlands on Saturday (8.30 p.m. / ZDF) and on Monday (8.30 p.m. / ARD) co-favorite Norway. The two best teams in the group of six advance to the quarter-finals in Gdańsk.
