Ex-premiers in order of tenure


Smore than an hour before the start of the funeral service for the deceased British Queen Elizabeth II. in Westminster Abbey, the church gradually filled up on Monday. TV pictures showed how many of the mourners flocked to the more than 1,000-year-old church in central London.

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have arrived in London for the Queen's funeral service at Westminster Abbey. Unlike most mourners, the US presidential couple traveled in their own car. They entered the church hand in hand. French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had previously arrived.

Barely half an hour before the start of the funeral service for Queen Elizabeth II, British Prime Minister Liz Truss and her predecessors arrived at Westminster Abbey. As could be seen on television pictures, ex-Prime Ministers John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson entered the first Churchbefore the current Prime Minister, Truss, arrived.

Accompanied by their partners, they entered Westminster Abbey in order of tenure. Led by John Major, with Boris Johnson bringing up the rear. A total of 15 prime ministers have held office during the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Just two days before the death of Queen Elizabeth II, new Prime Minister Liz Truss was sworn in by the Queen.

About 2,000 guests, including hundreds of heads of state and government, royalty and dignitaries from around the world, are expected to attend the state funeral service. Most were taken to the church in central London by bus to avoid traffic chaos. The area around Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the procession route was already cordoned off in the morning.
