In 2019, the EPP chairman had to hand over the presidency of the Commission to Ursula von der Leyen. Now German parliamentary group colleagues are criticizing him because his new strategies could damage their image.

Manfred Weber claims to pursue politics from the content and to think in long lines. That is why he is considered the antipode of the agile Markus Söder in the CSU. Now, however, it seems to be his downfall that he lacks Söder’s sense of mood. Weber recently had to be publicly rebuked by Söder, but also by CDU leader Friedrich Merz, and even group colleagues in Brussels attack him. The allegations: Weber does not support Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sufficiently, does not distance himself from the rights and approves an inappropriate salary.
