EU Parliament – Marc Angel wins election – Politics

The Luxembourg social democrat Marc Angel has been elected the new Vice President of the European Parliament as a result of the EU corruption scandal. He prevailed on Wednesday in the second ballot with 307 votes. In the first ballot Angel had missed an absolute majority. He succeeds the Greek Eva Kaili, who was involved in the scandal. The S&D group, which was particularly affected by the affair, was able to defend its post and provides five of the 14 vice-presidents. The Greens politician Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield and Annalisa Tardino from the right-wing ID parliamentary group also stood for election. Tardino was able to unite 185 votes, Delbos-Corfield almost 100 votes.
