The number of people fleeing to Germany is increasing. Accommodation is becoming scarce in many regions. The municipalities are appealing to the federal and state governments for help – and are even planning to set up tents again.

How serious has the situation been in some federal states for a long time? It is true that no pictures of long queues of refugees in front of the arrival centers have crossed the country, says the person responsible for a large city. But in some places it’s not that far away. The situation is “highly dramatic”. In view of the recent sharp increase in the number of refugees, the fight against the acute homelessness of refugees is becoming increasingly difficult. Because the local administrations would have to procure additional accommodation in ever shorter periods of time. In doing so, however, they were increasingly reaching their limits. The rental markets have been swept empty in many places. And hotels and youth hostels are again fully booked with travelers after the Corona vacancy.
