Ecobalance: Do more roads help against climate change?

CO₂ emissions in traffic are constantly increasing. Politicians say: This is also because there are so many traffic jams. Would more roads contribute to climate protection? We did the math.

The traffic light coalition is arguing about how much tax money should flow into road construction in the future. Disciples of the universally free ride argue: More lanes and new route sections would avoid traffic jams – and thus unnecessary CO₂ emissions. Eco-sensitive skeptics counter that any expansion will automatically lead to more traffic, especially on motorways – what with regard to that climate must be avoided.
