Diesel price at a new low for the year: cheaper refueling

For a liter, drivers currently have to pay an average of 1.695 euros nationwide, which is 2.6 cents less than in the previous week. This is the result of the current evaluation of the automobile club ADAC of fuel prices in Germany.

According to the ADAC, petrol is still 4.3 cents away from the previous year’s low, which was reached on January 12 with 1.692 euros per liter of Super E10. Diesel was even cheaper in February 2022, before energy prices rose sharply as a result of the war in Ukraine. For gasoline, the current level is roughly the same as it was then.

According to the ADAC experts, the reason for the fall in prices at the pumps was the relaxation that had occurred on the crude oil market. The turbulence in the banking sector and economic worries have recently weighed on the mood here. Oil prices also fell on Wednesday. A barrel (around 159 liters) of Brent oil cost around $74.5 at times one percent less than the day before. Later, the price was still slightly negative at around $75.

Regardless of the positive development from the driver’s point of view, the price level at the gas stations is still too high, according to the ADAC. The difference between the two types of fuel is still far too small at an average of 4 cents.

The prices not only differ from gas station to gas station, as is well known, there are also major differences over the course of the day: According to the recommendation of the ADAC, drivers should fill up their tanks in the evening. Our own evaluations show that average fuel prices are particularly low between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. In the morning, on the other hand, you should avoid the gas stations if you don’t want to pay an average of 15 cents per liter more for fuel. In individual cases it is even more.

Of course, exceptions prove the rule, so a comparison is always worthwhile whenever possible. Because it’s certainly not a bad idea not to drive the tank so empty that you have to fill it up at the nearest gas station.
