Forced rehabilitation, eco-dictatorship, attack on grandma’s house: The European Parliament is arguing about the new directive on climate-friendly heating and insulation of buildings – and not exactly with friendly words. Nevertheless, there was a result.

The Strasbourg Parliament building is a sensitive place for a debate on how to save energy and protect the climate in Europe. Even the majority of MEPs consider the monthly trip from Brussels to the four-day plenary session in Alsace to be as tiresome as it is unnecessary. But Strasbourg is officially the seat of Parliament, that’s what the treaties say, and France won’t allow anything to change that. And that’s why the lavish double life of Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg remains a point of attack for polemics.
