Climate Conference COP27: Attack on the climate

So far, the climate conference in Egypt has been sluggish. The results already achieved are also short-lived.

Jede World Climate Conference is a rollercoaster of emotions. At the “COP27” in Sharm el-Sheikh there were also long faces at the beginning of the crucial second week, as far too little progress was made. Now the participants seem more confident because China and the US seem to be getting closer on climate issues and the final declaration of the G-20 meeting contained more commitments to the main Egyptian issues than expected.

There was particular relief that Beijing in Bali decided to support the 1.5 degree target. One rubs one’s eyes that this should be a success, especially since the G-20 summit in Rome in 2021 contained this commitment almost exactly word for word. At that time, however, there was enough gas, France’s nuclear power plants were running, and Glasgow could initiate the phase-out of coal with a clear conscience.

Russia’s attack on Ukraine, however, has derailed efforts to combat global warming, and to a certain extent Moscow has also declared war on climate protection. For this reason alone, the world community must achieve results in Egypt in order to repel this attack.
