First or already? Mariah Carey’s catchy tune “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is number one in the German charts for the tenth time this week.

For the tenth time in the 28-year history of “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, Mariah Carey’s Christmas pop song is number one in the official German charts this week.

The song is a hit every year. And this is the catchy tune again at the beginning of December at the top.

That was also the case in 2021 and 2020. Three years ago, on the other hand, the song only reached the top position around the holidays themselves – or after Christmas. And then (December 27, 2019) it was there for the first time ever.

A week later, the Christmas hit – obviously tired of listening – had completely disappeared from the top 100 again.

The fact that the song has been climbing so high at all lately seems to be due to a growing cult status in recent years as well as the streaming boom and people’s nostalgic playlists around the holidays.

Carey’s classic only made it to number one in the US charts in 2019 – a quarter of a century after its release.

In Germany, the song was able to hold first place for five weeks around Christmas of the strict Corona period at the end of 2020 (4/11/18/25 December ’20 and January 1, 2021).

Last year “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was at the top for three weeks (December 3/10/17). And now it’s back to number one (December 2nd). All in all, that adds up to ten weeks.
