CDU – Maassen wants to explain himself – politics

According to the Values Union, the controversial former head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maassen, wants to write to the CDU explain. As requested by the CDU, Maassen wanted to submit a written statement by Thursday, said a press spokesman for the arch-conservative Values Union on Monday. Maassen is the federal chairman of the Values Union – an association with around 4,000 members, who are not all members of the CDU or CSU at the same time. The Value Union is not an official grouping of the CDU. After Maaßen’s highly controversial statements, most recently on Twitter and in an interview, the 60-year-old was asked by prominent CDU politicians to leave the party. The CDU presidium gave him a deadline of Sunday noon, which Maassen let pass.
