Accordingly, the resilience, wear behavior and crack propagation of more than 30 of the steels most commonly used in Germany’s gas network were examined over several years. In a summary, it says that the DVGW study proves that the operating behavior when transporting hydrogen under the normal operating conditions in gas supply networks does not differ from that of natural gas.
The remaining service life of the installed pipelines for operation with pure hydrogen is around 100 years. The study results can be transferred to the entire German gas network.
