Bishops’ conference – outrage over NS comparison – politics

The German Bishops’ Conference reacted indignantly to a Nazi comparison made by the Swiss Curia Cardinal Kurt Koch. “The plenary assembly of bishops reacted with horror to this statement, with which Cardinal Koch disqualified himself in the theological debate,” said the chairman Georg Bätzing in Fulda. It was an “unacceptable lapse” and he demanded a public apology. Cook had in the daily mail talked about parallels between current discussions and those from the Nazi era: “It irritates me that new sources are accepted in addition to the sources of revelation from scripture and tradition; and I am shocked that this is happening – again – in Germany.” This development already existed during the Nazi era. Koch then presented a statement on Thursday evening. In it he regretted possible injuries, but at the same time emphasized that he would continue to question the reform project critically.
