Berlin – Giffey pelted with an egg – politics
Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) was insulted and an egg was thrown at the May Day rally of the German Trade Union Confederation on Sunday. The SPD politician missed the egg, said spokeswomen for the Senate and the DGB on request. The crowd clamored to implement the Berlin referendum on the expropriation of housing companies. Giffey had to temporarily interrupt her speech. In the evening, there were scuffles between police officers and demonstrators at the traditional May Day demonstrations in Neukölln and Kreuzburg. Overall, the protest march, in which around 14,000 people took part, was largely peaceful until the early evening hours.
